Ever since Republican U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack's stunning upset in the 8th Congressional District last fall, Minnesota politicos have been drafting a list of DFLers who could possibly win back the seat in 2012. A DFL source says Lieutenant Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon is considering a run.
Mark Dayton was sworn in as Minnesota's 40th governor during a midday ceremony in St. Paul on Monday, becoming the first Democrat to hold the state's top elected office in two decades. The former U.S. Senator takes office with the state facing a $6.2 billion budget deficit and Republicans taking control of the state House and Senate.
Dayton and Lieutenant Governor-elect Yvonne Prettner Solon on Monday announced plans for their inaugural on Jan. 3, which includes a morning serving breakfast to schoolchildren at Wellstone Elementary, the inaugural ceremony and oath of office at the St. Paul Landmark Center and an open house at the state Capitol.
Dayton said he'd like for the Legislature to consider a bonding bill this session, as opposed to to the next. Koch said "we have some slightly different approaches," but said that all options would be on the table and considered.

DFL candidates for governor are jetting across the state Monday to appeal to voters on the eve of the primary election.
In the final days before the Aug. 10 primary, DFL candidates vying for the governor's office are racking up a few last-minute endorsements they hope will slingshot them to the general election.
Gubernatorial candidate Mark Dayton spent some time this week on the Eklund farm in Stanchfield shooting a campaign commercial. The farm was previously featured in a campaign ad for 8th CD Rep. Jim Oberstar.
Sen. Yvonne Prettner Solon has endorsed Duluth City Councilor Patrick Boyle to succeed her in what has become known as the Solon seat in the Minnesota Senate.
