Fallout has been almost constant since release of the state's redistricting maps last week, and over the weekend a few more incumbent-on-incumbent match-ups became clear, some House members switched to run in open Senate seats and new candidates emerged to take their place.

In the first hours and days after the state’s new redistricting maps landed at the Capitol Tuesday, the collective sense of relief among Minnesota Democrats was unmistakable.

In the 2010 gubernatorial contest, independent expenditure groups played a crucial role in Mark Dayton’s narrow victory.
Steven Schiroo, a 25-year-old Cokato resident, has filed to run against Urdahl in the relatively conservative district.
Former GOP gubernatorial nominee Tom Emmer is accusing Hamline University of rescinding a job offer owing to criticism from faculty over his conservative views. Emmer claims he had a signed contract to serve as an "executive in residence" at Hamline's business school, but that the appointment fell apart after dissent surfaced specifically over his opposition to gay marriage.
The announcement thrusts Emmer back into the political scene in Minnesota, as he will head up efforts for the group -- staunch opponents of gay marriage -- heading into the 2012 election.

On Wednesday one of the GOP attorneys on the recount, Tony Trimble, told PIM that then-RPM Chairman Sutton signed an agreement legally obliging the party to cover the full cost of the recount legal fees, reportedly around $450,000. And late Wednesday afternoon, Sutton confirmed the existence of an agreement that he says he does not recall disclosing to other party officials. But Sutton went on to claim that he believes the party is only responsible for the debt in the event that the recount fund in question, incorporated as Count Them All Properly Inc., ceases to exist.

In late November, a group of roughly two dozen Republican activists gathered at a residence in Edina to discuss the future of the state Republican Party. The meeting included a broad cross-section of the GOP’s notoriously fractious base.
The short knives are out in the Republican Party. Former GOP deputy chair Michael Brodkorb harshly criticized 2010 gubernatorial nominee Tom Emmer at Saturday's State Central Committee gathering. "I think Republicans nominated the one candidate who couldn't possibly win in 2010," Brodkorb told Minnesota Public Radio.

In his administration’s drive to change the health insurance system, Gov. Mark Dayton has found an adversary in the state senator who presides over the committee charged with making the recommendation to confirm or deny his Health and Human Services commissioners.
