In an embarrassing misstep, the Senate’s omnibus tax bill was initially defeated on a 34-32 vote Monday. But after a brief caucus meeting, DFLers returned to the floor and passed the bill on a 35-31 vote.

In an embarrassing misstep, the Senate’s omnibus tax bill was initially defeated on a 34-32 vote on Monday. Seven DFLers joined all but one GOP legislator in voting against the bill, which raises $1.9 billion in additional revenue.
On April 4, Sen. Julianne Ortman sent a letter to Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson asking the state's top lawyer to review the constitutionality of legislation designed to prevent bullying in schools. It was signed by every member of the Senate GOP caucus.

In some instances, DFLers and Republicans won contests in partisan strongholds and have almost assuredly secured their place in the Legislature next session.
