Graves, who last week announced his intent to win a rematch against Bachmann, again finds himself at a significant disadvantage. But the report also marks something of a downturn in fundraising prowess for Bachmann.
Graves’ campaign manager, Aaron Wells, confirmed his plans to the St. Cloud Times Thursday morning. Graves, a hotel executive from St. Cloud, nearly beat Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann last fall for the seat , which covers the northern Twin Cities suburbs and St. Cloud. Graves lost by less than 5,000 votes on Nov. 6, the closest any Democrat has come to toppling Bachmann.

Michele Bachmann, running for her fourth term representing Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional district, pulled in just more than $1 million in the month of July, easily surpassing her fellow Minnesota Congressmen and women in total fundraising hauls, as well as her Democratic opponent Jim Graves, who raised $64,000 in that period.

Minnesota House and Senate candidates took in more than $6 million during the second quarter of 2012, according to reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission. U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann raked in the biggest haul at $1.9 million. That's more than six times the amount raised by DFL challenger Jim Graves in the Sixth Congressional District.
Brian Barnes and Jim Graves both won DFL endorsement at a pair of conventions this weekend. They will challenge GOP incumbents this fall.
Hotelier Jim Graves joins two other candidates -- attorney Anne Nolan and businessman Brian McGoldrick -- hoping to knock off Bachmann. Delegates in the district will gather this weekend to endorse a candidate in the race. Graves has not said whether he will abide by the endorsement.
