Capitol security report reiterates longstanding concerns

Security at the Capitol should be "more comprehensive and better coordinated," according to a new report issued by a 14-member committee tasked with studying the issue. The report reiterates longstanding concerns about lax security at the two dozen buildings and parking lots that make up the Capitol complex.

The shooting of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 19 others near Tuscon, Arizona over the weekend is spurring renewed concerns about security at the state Capitol. A 2009 report by the Office of the Legislative Auditor determined that the Capitol complex has "significant security vulnerabilities."
