More than $2 million was raised by candidates in the 6th Congressional District in 2009. That makes it easily the most expensive U.S. House contest in Minnesota so far this election cycle.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann raised more money in 2009 than any other House member from Minnesota. The 6th Congressional District legislator pulled in more than $1.5 million and reported having just over $1 million in the bank.

Democrat Maureen Hackett, who is trying to unseat 3rd Congressional District Rep. Erik Paulsen, raised $138,000 in the fourth quarter of 2009. The psychiatrist and U.S. Air Force veteran had $129,000 cash on hand at the end of the year, according to her campaign.

Rare is the newly formed interest group lobbying the legislature that starts out with a politically savvy bang. Such was the case just before Thanksgiving when Sensible Energy Solutions for Minnesota (SESM) held a press conference with U.S. Reps. Erik Paulsen (R-MN 3) and Tim Walz (D-MN1) asking legislators to repeal the moratorium that prevents the Public Utilities Commission from authorizing construction of new nuclear facilities.
Former GOP gubernatorial candidate and three-term Rep. Allen Quist officially launches his campaign against U.S. Rep. Tim Walz (R MN1) today. He'll be making stops in the First Congressional District key population and regional commerce centers of Austin, Mankato and Rochester.
U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, D-Minn., has been named vice chair of the House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Jim Oberstar, D-Minn.

U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, D-MN, held forth on the issue at a Mankato town hall last week.
The meeting undoubtedly included some heated participation. But it didn't devolve into hysteria, and actually included some discussion of ideas.
