The Minnesota governor's race is wide open, according to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports. The survey pitted the two leading Republican contenders against six of the likely Democratic nominees. The upshot: Republicans won nine of the twelve potential contests, but by mostly narrow margins.

There are two clear front-runners in the battle for the DFL gubernatorial endorsement: House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak. By the only measures currently available – caucus straw poll, pledged delegates – they’re well ahead of the rest of pack of contenders. That will almost certainly remain the case when delegates assemble for the statewide party convention in Duluth at the end of April.

Depending on your perspective, the Minnesota DFL State Central Committee's Voter Activation Network database is a cash cow, a valuable communication tool or a massive headache - or some combination of the three.

They had to sweep Tom Emmer out of South View Middle School in Edina on Tuesday night.
But it was somehow fitting: It was Emmer's last stop on an ambitious three-hour sweep of GOP precinct caucuses that took the gubernatorial candidate from Eden Prairie to Eagan to Bloomington to Edina, during which he shook countless hands, listened to heartfelt concerns and never allowed his energy to flag.

The DFL gubernatorial contest still appears wide open. Organized labor has failed to unite behind a single candidate. The money chase has also yielded little distance between the candidates.

Former state Sen. Steve Kelley raised $187,000 in 2009. He finished the year with roughly $40,000 cash on hand, according to his campaign.

Last week Mark Dayton held a press conference to announce what everyone already knew: that he was running for governor. But the former U.S. Senator irked reporters by only answering three questions. So today Dayton called another Capitol press conference to answer every question that reporters cared to throw at him.

The umbrella organization for the Teamsters unions in Minnesota today endorsed former Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton for governor.

Following Mark Dayton's holiday disclosures, the Star Tribune has sent a survey to all Minnesota gubernatorial candidates asking them whether they have ever had substance abuse or mental health problems.

Former U.S. senator and 2010 gubernatorial candidate says, "I have a 34-year career of public service in Minnesota, and I'll stand on that record."
