Interspersed with the apparently endless bonding requests that flooded the Legislature in the first week of the 2010 session are bills that don't spur impassioned Minnesotans to stage rallies, but which some lawmaker nevertheless thought worth the effort.

House Republicans this afternoon jumped out in front of DFLers who are fast-tracking a nearly $1 billion capital projects bill. They ultimately failed to force a vote on a bill that phases out Minnesota's corporate income tax.

GOP state Rep. Laura Brod is backing Tom Emmer for governor. The New Prague Republican announced the decision in a note posted on her Facebook page today.

Marty Seifert confirmed this morning a PIM report that state Rep. Laura Brod turned down an overture to be on his short list of possible lieutenant governor candidates. The former Republican House Minority Leader said that Brod is one of roughly 25 people he's contacted to discuss the possibility of filling the number two spot on a gubernatorial ticket.

Gubernatorial candidate Rep. Marty Seifert (R-Marshall) asked Rep. Laura Brod (R-New Prague) to be "considered on his short list" to be his Lt. Gov. running mate.

At the end of the day -- after talking to at least a dozen people -- I figure the odds on Norm Coleman getting into the governor's race now stand at 3-1 in favor. But there's an even better bet to be made IF Coleman gets in the race.
