Speculation had been ramping up recently about Edina DFLer and Optometric Association lobbyist Jim Meffert making a run for Erik Paulsen's (R-MN3) seat (see MN Progressive Project and Polinaut). Today, Politics in Minnesota received a tip that Meffert filed his campaign paperwork yesterday, and is in the race. Meffert will have at least one challenger for the DFL endorsement; Dr. Maureen Hackett of Minnetonka has also formed a committee.

It looks like there's some bipartisan agreement in the debate over health care reform after all.

At least three members of Congress from the Land of 10,000 Lakes have come out against a $4 billion annual fee on medical device makers. The fee was approved by the Senate Finance Committee last week as part of a national health insurance overhaul.

U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen’s campaign expanded its war chest in the third quarter between July 1 and Sept. 30 by raising $317,640. In a filing Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission, the first term Republican representing Minnesota’s suburban 3rd Congressional District reported raising $923,456 for the entire election cycle.
