
State Rep. Al Juhnke, DFL-Willmar, plans to announce next week how he would raise revenue by allowing slot machines at horse racing tracks. And there are plenty of other gambling-related revenue proposals waiting in the wings.

Minnesota's newest state senator, who earned his job after his predecessor resigned to become a lobbyist for racinos, testified this morning against a bill that would impose a two-year moratorium on former legislators and elected officials becoming paid lobbyists.

DFLer Jason Engbrecht, who fell to Republican Mike Parry in last month's special election to replace state Sen. Dick Day, R-Owatonna, doesn't plan to challenge Parry again in November.

As the 2010 Minnesota Legislature kicks off this week, a half-dozen legislators, most of them DFLers, have announced that they don't plan to be back when the gavel comes down on the 2011 session.

Republicans will keep control of the state Senate seat vacated by Dick Day. Mike Parry, a former Waseca City Council member, won Tuesday's special election with 43 percent of the vote.

On January 26 a special election will be held to fill the Senate seat vacated by Republican Dick Day. The contest has attracted three challengers: Republican Mike Parry, Democrat Jason Engbrecht and Independence Party candidate Roy Srp.
