As Minnesota attempts to dig itself out of a $1.2 billion deficit, the 15-term DFL representative from Minneapolis came up with a plan that some say would save the state an estimated $500,000 each biennium. The idea: Abolish the position of lieutenant governor.

Minnesota Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau is supporting state Rep. Tom Emmer in the governor's race. The Waconia Republican served five terms in the state Legislature before being plucked by Gov. Tim Pawlenty for the state's number two post. Molnau also served as head of the Minnesota Department of Transportation until being ousted by DFL legislators in March 2008.
Minnesota Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau has been re-elected Midwest regional chair of the National Lieutenant Governors Association.

Today, the Senate is expected not to confirm Carol Molnau as Commissioner of Transportation.
Nine days after the I-35W Bridge collapsed, I concluded that Molnau should resign.
I stand by every word I wrote then:
"Molnau should step down from the MnDOT job. With everyone’s best wishes, a collective fond remembrance of seriously and hilariously rattling former [...]

I’ve written before how vested the Star Tribune has
become in trying to win a Pulitzer or two from the paper’s coverage of
the I-35W bridge collapse. To summarize, bridge collapse coverage is
perhaps the only shot the current generation of editors and reporters
