The Minnesota governor’s race is wide open, according to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports. The survey pitted the two leading Republican contenders against six of the potential Democratic nominees. The upshot: Republicans won nine of the twelve potential contests, but by mostly narrow margins.

State Rep. Marty Seifert, GOP-Marshall, won five of six match-ups against potential DFL opponents. The only Democrat to run even with the former House Minority Leader was Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, Each received support from 38 percent of those surveyed.

The other leading GOP contender, state Rep. Tom Emmer, won four of six contests against potential DFL nominees. But he was narrowly out-polled by two of the leading Democratic contenders, former U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton and Rybak.

The poll also offered somewhat promising news for potential Independence Party nominee Tom Horner. The former Republican consistently picked up support from between seven and ten percent of those surveyed.

Rasmussen Reports polled 500 individuals. The survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

Dayton and Rybak will run neck to neck in the Primary. One of them will undoubtedly be our next governor.
