Minnesota state Sen. Tarryl Clark, who is seeking the state DFL party’s endorsement to challenge U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., in November, raised $293,953 in campaign contributions in the fourth quarter of 2009, her campaign reported today.

Clark raised more than $600,000 in the 22 weeks of 2009 that followed her candidacy announcement, according to a campaign news release, and had slightly less than $389,900 in cash on hand at the end of the year.

The amount puts Clark ahead of the only other announced DFL candidate for the seat, Maureen Reed, who announced last week that she raised $207,800 in the fourth quarter of 2009 and $574,600 for the entire year.

Clark’s fourth-quarter contributions came from 2,906 donors, including 2,622 new contributors, campaign officials reported.

“Our thousands of small-dollar donors are a testament to the enthusiasm for Tarryl’s campaign, and a clear demonstration of the kind of grassroots network we’re building to win this election,” Zach Rodvold, Clark’s campaign manager, said in a statement.

“Michele Bachmann is spending her time traveling the country, sharing the stage with Sarah Palin and building her national fundraising base. This outpouring of support from literally thousands of people shows that folks have had enough of Bachmann’s personal agenda and are committed to electing Tarryl Clark to Congress to fight for them.”

Candidates for federal office must file fundraising reports with the Federal Election Commission by Jan. 31. Bachmann has not yet released her fundraising numbers.
