Seifert confirms Brod rejected potential spot on ticket

GOP gubernatorial candidate Marty Seifert this morning confirmed a PIM report that state Rep. Laura Brod turned down an overture to be on his short list of possible lieutenant governor candidates. The former Republican House Minority Leader said that Brod is one of roughly 25 people he’s contacted to discuss the possibility of filling the number two spot on a gubernatorial ticket.

“She was not asked to be my running mate,” Seifert said when asked about the report at a press conference. “We had a conversation. … It was basically would you want to be one of 20 people to be considered? And she said that she wasn’t.”

Seifert also stated that he expects to name his running mate by the end of March. “The announcement will definitely be before the convention,” he said. The state GOP convention is slated to take place in Minneapolis on the last weekend in April.
