Minnesota Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau is supporting state Rep. Tom Emmer in the governor’s race. The Waconia Republican served five terms in the state House before being plucked by Gov. Tim Pawlenty for the state’s number two post. Molnau also headed the Minnesota Department of Transportation until being ousted by DFL legislators in March 2008.

“I think it was his leadership style and his strength that really turned me towards Tom,” Molnau said at a Capitol press conference. “If I didn’t think there was a strong candidate in this race then I might be in it.”

Emmer’s campaign also announced that he’s being supported by state Sen. Mike Jungbauer, who previously was running for governor, and state Reps. Matt Dean, Joe Hoppe and Dean Urdahl.
