Democrat Maureen Hackett, who is trying to unseat 3rd Congressional District Rep. Erik Paulsen, raised $138,000 in the fourth quarter of 2009. The psychiatrist and Air Force veteran had $129,000 cash on hand at the end of the year, according to her campaign.

“It’s important that we lay a solid foundation so we’ll have what it takes to defeat Erik Paulsen in November,” Hackett said in a statement announcing the figures. “That’s what we’ve done and we continue to get stronger each day.”

Hackett is one of two Democrats seeking to take on Paulsen in the general election. Jim Meffert, the other DFL challenger, reported raising nearly $48,000 in the fourth quarter, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings, and had roughly $33,000 in the bank at the close of the year.

It will take a formidable campaign war chest to challenge Paulsen: the first-term legislator had nearly $1 million in the bank at the end of 2009.

Republican Allen Quist, who is running against 1st Congressional District Rep. Tim Walz, has also filed his figures with the FEC. The former state representative and two-time candidate for governor reported raising almost $33,000. He had just over $30,000 cash on hand at the close of the year.

Two other Republicans have announced that they’ll seek the party’s endorsement in the 1st district: Jim Hagedorn, son of former U.S. Rep. Tom Hagedorn, and state Rep. Randy Demmer. Their fourth-quarter figures are not yet available from the FEC.

How much of that was her personal contributions? Too bad this article doesn’t have it broken down that $110K of that money was from her own pocket.

  2. Paul Says:

Who cares how she gets her resources? If she is willing to spend her own money to take on a guy with $1,000,000 raised from bankers more power to her!
