U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., who is seeking a third term this fall, ended the 2009 Federal Election Commission reporting cycle with more than $1 million in cash on hand, her campaign reported today.
Bachmann’s campaign raised $591,600 in the last quarter of 2009 for a total of $1,552,864 for the year.
“The numbers speak for themselves, and the campaign couldn’t be stronger,” Bachmann spokesman Dave Dziok said in a statement, noting that almost 9,000 of the contributions came from individual donors in Minnesota.
“Clearly, Rep. Bachmann’s common-sense message of individual liberty and fiscal responsibility is resonating loud and clear with the hearts and minds of our constituents,” Dziok said.
Two potential DFL challengers for Bachmann’s seat, state Sen. Tarryl Clark of St. Cloud and physician Maureen Reed, earlier reported that their campaigns raised $293,953 and $207,800 in the fourth quarter of 2009, respectively.
Clark raised more than $600,000 in the 22 weeks of 2009 that followed her candidacy announcement, and Reed collected $574,600.
