In a development related to the post below, the DFL Party has issued a news release that says Republicans are "playing the divisive politics of the past" by launching their television ad campaign that criticizes DFL Secretary of State Mark Ritchie.

DFL Chairman Brian Melendez said the ads are a sign that Republicans are focusing on "petty attacks" instead of dealing with the economic downturn and health care.

"For example, this morning, the (state) Department of Employment & Economic Development released the unemployment statistics for Minnesota last month, and more jobs are being lost — 16,700 jobs lost in June alone," Melendez said. "But Republicans can’t be bothered with the economy, so instead they’re attacking an elected official — Secretary of State Mark Ritchie — for doing his job."
