Just moments ago we received a press release announcing that Gov. Tim Pawlenty will hold a press conference today at 2 "regarding his future plans."

The early buzz among media folk at the Capitol is that Pawlenty will say he’s not running for re-election in 2010. More when we know more.
As is often the case lately, the first word of this went around on Twitter. This morning, a hearing of the House Ethics Committee, chaired by Rep. Mary Murphy (DFL-Hermantown), got underway, looking at norms of behavior for Twitter use.

The DFL’s field for governor in 2010 is already well-populated (see the PIM 2010 governor’s race home page), and today, evidently, quite a few GOP contenders will likely start making moves.

It appeared the news came out first electronically via @patkessler and @tomscheck. [The earliest timestamp is on Kessler's WCCO writeup.] @johnlesch sent out: “is chagrined to hear of T Paw’s presser this afternoon where his priorities will be revealed as nat’l GOP delegates - not Minnesota.”
