Yesterday PIM caught up with Rep. Tom Rukavina (DFL-Virginia) (pictured), the chair of the House Higher Education and Workforce Development Finance and Policy Division, to ask whether he was worried about the projected deficit in the state’s unemployment insurance fund. He wasn’t, particularly: "We knew we’d go into deficit by the end of the year. We’ll have to borrow. It’s happened before. Hopefully, the economy will get better."

Then he added: "I’m worried about the whole economy. I’m worried about the fact I don’t see the governor and DEED [Department of Employment and Economic Development] doing anything creative to get any employment in this state.

"I don’t see the governor doing anything to stimulate the economy and attract businesses, other than running for president. I have a slogan for him:

"’Let me screw up the country like I screwed up Minnesota.’"
