The National Governors Association (NGA) is out with a report today that says states must find new revenue sources to stanch their deteriorating budget situations.

The NGA and the National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO) released their biannual Fiscal Survey of States. The report is available online at www.nga.org.

More than half of states are experiencing negative budget growth in 2009. Nearly three quarters of states are recommending budgets for 2010 that have negative growth.

Raymond Scheppach, executive director of the NGA, said the federal stimulus money helped support state budgets this year. But state’s will have to consider new revenue in addition to any budget cuts to support their budgets in 2010.
