A coalition whose aim is to "make Norm go away" is hovering just under its fundraising goal this morning.
The "Dollar a Day to Make Norm Go Away" campaign hopes to hit $150,000 today (with an ultimate goal of $200,000) to help convince former Sen. Norm Coleman to give up his fight to reclaim his Senate seat.
The seemingly endless recount battle is currently in ths hands of the Minnesota Supreme Court, which is expected to issue its ruling within the next few weeks on whether Coleman’s Democratic opponent, Al Franken, should claim his seat in the Senate.
The money raised by the coalition — a cooperative effort between Democracy for America and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee — plans to use the donations to support "progressive candidates run effective campaigns and win."
"Republicans in D.C. know Al Franken won," a message on the website says. "But they are bankrolling Norm Coleman’s continued court challenges in Minnesota to keep Al Franken out of the Senate.
"There was no downside to this Republican strategy — until now!
"Democracy for America and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee launched the ‘Dollar a Day to Make Norm Go Away’ campaign. Each day Coleman refuses to concede, thousands of us are donating $1 to help progressive defeat Republicans in 2010."
