The big story this week is the imminent unallotment action from GOP Gov. Tim Pawlenty, and the consequences for local governments. MPR notes White Bear Lake’s adjustments; the Strib looks at Washington County; ABC Newspapers on Anoka, Andover, East Bethel and Ham Lake; Don Davis has the Willmar rundown; the Forest Lake Times has regional impacts; the Rock County Star Herald has effects in Luverne; the Strib’s Jon Tevlin has the effects in Pawlenty’s hometown, South St. Paul; the Fairmont Sentinel has Fairmont covered; the Pioneer Press looks at Hastings; WJON-AM has a couple grafs on Sartell.
Libraries, ash borers and local services: The Fergus Falls Daily Journal notes that library demand is up. An arts center in Burnsville is closing and Mankato is figuring out what to do about emerald ash borer (Mankato has about 2400 endangered ash trees, the Mankato Free Press says).
Pawlenty in DC for national education conference: Pawlenty’s office says he’ll continue to be in the Beltway Tuesday at the Global Education Competitiveness Summit; additionally we learned Pawlenty is the chair of the Education Commission of the States. He’ll be giving some closing remarks sometime around 1:30 p.m. (Central time, we’d assume), including a brief Q&A. [He was also there today.]
Climate conflict: Minnesota’s congressional delegation has splintered along party lines over the climate change bill, as MinnPost notes.
