The shrimp were piled high and the chocolate fountain flowed for Minnesota delegates Tuesday at a midday mixer at a mansion on St. Paul’s Summit Avenue.

Delegates from several Minnesota congressional districts attended the Minnesota Credit Union Network’s Summer Soiree at the Beaux Arts-style mansion built in 1894 at 340 Summit.

Former GOP state Rep. Peter Nelson of Lindstrom sat under a tent in the manse’s back yard overlooking downtown. Nelson, an alternate delegate from Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District, said Republicans at their national convention in St. Paul are in good spirits despite the effects of Hurricane Gustav in the Gulf Coast and electoral defeats in 2006.
