Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life is voicing its displeasure with the Republican-controlled Legislature. In a fundraising appeal sent out to potential donors, MCCL president Leo F. LaLonde harshly criticizes the House and Senate for failing to pass any significant pro-life legislation this year.

“I am going to be brutally honest,” LaLonde writes. “I am devastated by the fact that not only were we unsuccessful in enacting any new pro-life laws this session, but we lost an existing pro-life policy for the first time since Roe V. Wade legalized abortion on demand!”

The letter specifically criticizes House Speaker Kurt Zellers and Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch for agreeing to take social issues off the table during budget negotiations with DFL Gov. Mark Dayton. In particular, MCCL takes issue with the Legislature’s failure to reauthorize a ban on state funding of human cloning.

“With the pressure to resolve the government shutdown, state negotiations, biased media commentary and dogged partisan rhetoric, the Republican leaders lost sight of what is truly at stake — the lives of innocent human beings,” LaLonde writes.

And how awful those legislators must feel when they get disparaged. Here they contribute so much working for the public good and some people don’ love them unconditionally. And all they get for this part time job is $30,000 a year? Of course if they live in the metro area, they get $80 a day (or any part thereof, I’d bet) for meals and gas when they are in session. You know how expensive McDonald’s is these days.*******

They deserve more respect. There should be a law requiring that.

I am tired of MCCL thinking that they are the only ones who can create legislation or author legislation supporting life in Minnesota. If you want to support financially the Pro-Life movement then instead of wasting your money on MCCL send it to your local crisis pregnancy centers which are located in most towns in Minnesota
