DFL primaries loom for Berglin, Scheid seats

There will be contested DFL primaries for the Senate seats being vacated by Linda Berglin and Linda Scheid.

Three DFL candidates have lined up for the primary battle in Berglin’s Minneapolis district. That includes current DFL House Rep. Jeff Hayden, Kristian Heuer, a political newcomer and Minneapolis graphic designer, and Sadik Warfa, who ran against DFL Rep. Karen Clark as an independent last fall.

In Brooklyn Park — late senator Scheid’s district — two DFL candidates will go head-to-head in the primary:  Chris Eaton, a registered nurse, and Timothy Davis Sr., who ran for mayor of Brooklyn Park in 2010.

Eaton has the blessing of the Scheid family and her campaign manager is Joel Hilstrom, the husband of House District 46A Rep. Debra Hilstrom.  The winner of the primary will face Republican Richard Taylor and Tom Reynolds, a former DFLer who registered as an Independence Party candidate, in the general election.

Candidates who wish to run in either district must file by Wednesday. The primary election for both seats will be held on Sept. 13.
