SOS hopes to finish MN gov recount by mid December

The Minnesota Secretary of State’s office hopes to finish a potential recount in the governor’s race by mid December.

The office released a proposed time line Friday for the recount. The process starts with a State Canvassing Board meeting on Nov. 23. If the margin between DFL candidate Mark Dayton, who is leading GOP nominee Tom Emmer by  8,781 votes, still falls below one-half of one percent of the total votes cast, an automatic hand recount will be necessary.

The board will then adopt a state recount plan and appoint an official to head up the task.

The recount would officially begin on Nov. 29 across the state, according to the plan, with the board meeting again Dec. 8 – 10 to determine the winner of any lingering Legislative races and handle challenged ballots in the gubernatorial recount. In a Dec. 14 meeting, the board hopes to certify a winner in the governor’s race.
