Two of Minnesota’s three Democratic constitutional officers are getting on the air as they prepare for Republican challenges in the general election.
Secretary of State Mark Ritchie and State Auditor Rebecca Otto released television ads this week. Ritchie’s ad focuses on election reforms passed at the Legislature this session that increased voting by military personnel. It also highlights the 2008 U.S. Senate recount and trial, saying his office “got it right.” State Rep. Dan Severson, R-Sauk Rapids, is taking on Ritchie in November.
Otto narrates her ad, saying she found “hundreds of millions of dollars in errors” in government reports, which her office has worked to clean up. Otto is facing former GOP State Auditor Pat Anderson in the general election.
Democratic Attorney General Lori Swanson has also bought airtime in October at WCCO, but her campaign has not yet released a television spot.
