State Rep. David Dill, DFL-Crane Lake, is recovering after undergoing a kidney transplant Tuesday.

According to a report in the Duluth News Tribune, Dill had surgery at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Family members told the Tribune that he is walking and feeling well. He could be released from the hospital as early as Saturday.

After years of fighting kidney and diabetes issues, Dill underwent gastric bypass surgery two years ago and lost more than 150 pounds. While surgery helped his diabetes, Dill’s kidney function slowly deteriorated and a transplant was necessary.

The five-term representative will face Republican Jim Tuomala on Nov. 2.
