U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen has been dropped from CNN’s list of the 100 most competitive House races in the country. In the wake of polling that shows Republicans with a 10-point edge in generic balloting — the largest such advantage ever recorded — four additional Republican incumbents have been removed from the rundown of contests that warrant watching.
Paulsen is a freshman in a swing district that President Obama carried by six percentage points in 2008. But he won the open seat two years ago by a surprisingly comfortable eight-point margin and has a massive financial advantage over DFL challenger Jim Meffert. Paulsen ended the second quarter with $1.4 million cash on hand compared to barely $30,000 for Meffert.
