Bully for Pat Flahaven!
With deep regret for the loss at the Minnesota Legislature and great joy for Secretary of the Senate Pat Flahaven and his wife, Maureen Flahaven, everyone at PIM and the Capitol Report wish Pat all the best as he retires and begins the next chapter of his life.
Not unexpectedly, Bill Salisbury of the St. Paul Pioneer Press and one of the few great institutional political reporters remaining at the Capitol, nails Flahaven:
"Revered for his fairness, calm style and institutional knowledge, Flahaven has been an impartial voice in a sometimes tense and fiercely partisan chamber."
Be sure to read the whole Salisbury piece, which details Flahaven's career. Salisbury also quotes Sen. Maj. Leader Larry Pogemiller (DFL-Minneapolis), who speaks for many in saying, "Pat has personified the Senate. For some, he is the Senate."
Congratulations to Flahaven on his stellar career and the remission of his cancer.
Because we're at a loss for more words, we'll ratify what Pogemiller also said, "It will be hard to imagine the Senate without him."
