100% rural. North-central Minnesota including Walker and parts of Cass, Crow Wing and Hubbard counties. A heavily wooded area, the district is dotted with lakes and small cities. It's a major tourist destination with some of the cleanest, most beautiful lakes and pine forests in the state. Naturally there's a heavy emphasis on outdoor recreation. The district has the highest percentage (19%) of people who derive their income from Social Security and retirement, along with the highest percentage of home ownership in the state, which is largely attributable to the vast number of retired people who are moving into the district. Politically, the district is increasingly Republican. The recent influx of retirees has brought along their more conservative views on fiscal issues and somewhat more liberal views on environmental protection and social issues.
