100% suburban. Founded 115 years ago, Robbinsdale was home to veterans of two world wars and their families. Now the World War II generation is moving into new senior-living buildings, creating many single-family housing opportunities for younger families and singles. Robbinsdale annually celebrates Whiz Bang Days, which takes its name from the Whiz Bang magazine, published in Robbinsdale by WW I veteran Wilford H. (Captain Billy) Fawcett and made famous in the musical, "The Music Man." A major employer in the district is North Memorial Medical Center, a trauma-center hospital. Many residents also work at jobs throughout the metropolitan area. Politically, Democrats have represented this area for decades.

The SD 45 Republicans earlier this year unanimously endorsed Gregg Prest of Golden Valley as the GOP candidate to oppose Rep. Carlson. Prest has been endorsed and has run against Carlson in the two previous races.
