Candidates:

100% rural. This is a "prairie to pine" district. The western part, once covered by the immense glacial Lake Agassiz, is now fertile prairie. Eastern parts of the district, which were not covered by Lake Agassiz, are heavily pine-forested. Diversity prevails in the agriculture here. Livestock include dairy, beef cattle, ostriches, buffalo and emu; besides grain, potatoes and corn, crops include wild rice, horseradish, carrots and strawberries. The district is home to Itasca State Park and Lake Itasca, the headwaters of the Mississippi. The northern half of the district includes the Red Lake Indian Reservation. Park Rapids, which is 50 miles from Bemidji and has five golf courses in the area, is a focal point for much of the tourist population. Politically, the district is moderate. Since 2002, it's been a battleground for the Minnesota House.
