House District 21A
Candidates:
Largely rural with a mix of small towns and two regional centers. The district has a growing population base in Marshall and Redwood Falls. Many of the smaller towns act as "bedroom" communities to those two cities, which also provide much of the employment opportunities for residents of the smaller communities. Somali and Hispanic immigrants have moved to Marshall recently to work in the food processing industry. The resulting change in demographics has created challenges for the schools, courts and social service agencies. Politically, the district became more Republican under the 2002 redistricting plan. The district is fiscally and socially conservative.
