House District 20B

Primarily rural. Important Minnesota history happened here. A portion of Ft. Ridgely State Park, second in historical significance only to Ft. Snelling, is in the district. In August of 1862, Ft. Ridgely was attacked as part of what later would be called the Sioux Uprising or the Dakota Conflict. The attack culminated with the execution of 38 American Indians, the largest mass hanging in American history. Large hog operations that emit odor and threaten ground pollution continue to be a high profile issue in Renville County. District residents also are concerned about educating their children, access to health care and jobs that pay enough to live on. Like its sister district, 20A, the workforce revolves around agriculture. Commuters drive to jobs in the regional centers of Willmar and Marshall. Politically, the district leans DFL.
