House District 01B
Candidates:

100% rural. This rural district's largest city is East Grand Forks with a population of more than 8,300. Crookston, home of the University of Minnesota-Crookston, is an economically healthy regional center that is still growing because of new or expanding manufacturers. The district is heavily dominated by agriculture and related businesses such as American Crystal Sugar with its nearly 600 employees. While settlement of the area began with the fur trade, agricultural development followed with the discovery of rich farm land in the Red River Valley. The combination of farming and outdoor recreation have made district residents very alert to resource management issues. Politically, the district is DFL.
