Rural/suburban/exurban mix. The mostly suburban/exurban east end of the district is defined by I-94 and the growth that has occurred along this major transportation corridor. Albertville now boasts the Outlets at Albertville, a major retail complex (one of the top 20 outlet centers in the U.S.) that has fostered other retail growth along I-94. St. Michael is still a two-stoplights town started by German immigrants more than 150 years ago. However, about 400 homes have been built here each year since the mid-1990s, dramatically changing the feel of the area. The western part of the district, once dotted with hog and crop farms, is experiencing explosive growth in home building and attendant small commercial retail development. Waverly is the former home of the late Vice President and U.S. Senator, Hubert Humphrey. Country music star Kenny Rogers boards his horses in Otsego. Politically, this district is Republican.
